Mon 17th Dec/Weds 19th Dec Algebra Simplifying / Collecting Like terms

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To practice simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to simplify a variety of algebraic expressions the 

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Hand out the make 200 puzzle sheets. Give students a max of 10 mins to try and solve the problems. Any early finishers let them check their answers against the answers provided. Check answers with all at end of 10 mins

LESSON: Hand out Collecting like terms worksheet. Students to solve all problems on the sheet provided. use answers and get students to check their answers at regular intervals.

EXTENSION: Should anyone complete all questions correctly (Jefferson Might) give them the three sheets from the other activity - a question sheet, a list of symbols against the alphabet, and a sheet of answers against symbols. In this activity they have to simplify the expression, then find out what symbol this represents, then write down the letter that the symbol represents (Easy to do than explain!!!)

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Understand weak areas from Maths test after updating flightpath and reviewing test answers
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to target your revision as you will know which were your weakest areas from the last maths test

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: hand out exam papers and give achance to talk about it with their peers

Where necessary give them a chance to answer some similar questoins as we work thorugh the test paper

Fri - 9th Nov - Updating FLight path, sorting out folders - More algebra work.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To discover what progress we are making, to ensure all tests are organised in folder and to revise algebra work

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be aware of your current level of achievement  whether you are on target or not. You may also be able to revise algebra - substitution.

LESSON: Ensure all test papers are handed out, Get students to get their books and folders. 
1. Ensure your test are filed in an organised way in your ring binder.
2. Update your flightpath with your D1 test result.

In your exercise book under today's date and LO copy and complete these sentences: replace the highlighted sections with your own data and choices

In test D1 I got a score of ???. this is a Grade ??.

My Best scores were in these three questions - topic1, topic2, topic3

I did not do very well in these three topics  - topic1, topic2, topic3 and will try and revise these at home using mymaths activities and homeworks

Mon 5th & Weds 7th Nov - Test review and analysis


LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To Analyse and review the questions and topics in the D1 grade F/G test

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will understand what the answers to the questions were in the test, you will know which topics you need to do some more work on, you will gain a higher grade at the end of term test in December

LESSON: Hand back marked tests and give students 5/10 mins to look at results / talk about answers and share results with each other.

For rest of lesson we will work through the questions one by one, looking at model answers. Students will make  copies of model answers using purple pens and then attempt some further questions on each topic that I will set on IWB. 
Students will add topics to their test papers and select which three areas they will work on themselves (possibly via intervention) before next half term test in December

If any spare time we will sort out folders and update flight trackers.

Talk about intervention process and extra work for those who do not improve from last test results

LESSON OBJECTIVE: Practising drawing 3d onjects on Isometric Paper
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to draw 3D shapes and drawings on isometric paper

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Look at thee 3D Drawings to get some inspiration for your own 3D drawing



LESSON: Students who were struggling to draw objects have to copy the shapes that I have pre drawn on isometric paper.

For those who have drawn opbjects correctly anbd are comfortable with drawing 3D objects on isometric paper can have a free rein to create their own 3D picture on a clean piece of isometric paper.

Hand out isometric paper, go through drawing differetn size cubes, then different size quadrilaterals.

Have a go at these tasks - Use coulrs to shade in your shape to make it more 3D

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To understand how to differentiate between quadrilaterals by considering their properties

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to list the properties of all quadrilaterals and be able to recognise a quadrilateral by its properties.

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Draw a rectangle and a parallelogram.

List all the properties that they have that are the same

LESSON: Work through this Lesson.

Now Hand out blank Properties of Quadrilaterals sheets and a sheet of Properties.

In The Shape Column draw a picture of each of the different shapes listed.

In the other four columns you have to select which of the properties belongs to each shape in each column. They are not all different
PLENARY: Checking Answers, use 'What am I game.. ' for 10 mins at end of lesson to check understanding, ask for feedback from students.

LEARNING OBJECTVIE: To understand what an index number is and what it means and to be able to work out answers when index numbers are multiplied or divided


SUCCES CRITERIA: You will understand how an index number is shorthand for a longer sum and be able to simplify answers when two or more index numbers are multiplied or divided.


ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Starter of the Day - know your Place


LESSON: On IWB Do a revision of indices numbers notation and remind how to use their calculators to work out indices sums.
