Mon 17th Dec/Weds 19th Dec Algebra Simplifying / Collecting Like terms

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To practice simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to simplify a variety of algebraic expressions the 

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Hand out the make 200 puzzle sheets. Give students a max of 10 mins to try and solve the problems. Any early finishers let them check their answers against the answers provided. Check answers with all at end of 10 mins

LESSON: Hand out Collecting like terms worksheet. Students to solve all problems on the sheet provided. use answers and get students to check their answers at regular intervals.

EXTENSION: Should anyone complete all questions correctly (Jefferson Might) give them the three sheets from the other activity - a question sheet, a list of symbols against the alphabet, and a sheet of answers against symbols. In this activity they have to simplify the expression, then find out what symbol this represents, then write down the letter that the symbol represents (Easy to do than explain!!!)

Fri Dec 14th Continue reviewing tests


LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Understand weak areas from Maths test after updating flightpath and reviewing test answers
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to target your revision as you will know which were your weakest areas from the last maths test

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: hand out exam papers and give achance to talk about it with their peers

LESSON:
Continue towork thorugh all questions with them on IWB, Encouraging them to put topics onto front page of test
Where necessary give them a chance to answer some similar questoins as we work thorugh the test paper

PLENARY: Copy and complete the following in your exercise book in PURPLE PEN

I gained ?? out of 49 in this test, this is a GRADE ??

I did well on these three topics:- topic 1, topic2, topics

I need to revise these three topics - topic1, topic2, topic3

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To understand how to simplify algebraic expressions by expanding brackets and collecting like terms together

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to simplify a variety of algebraic expressions

Weds 5th Dec - Revision in preparation of Fridays Test

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To Review D1 testas part of the revision for E1 test on Friday

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will improve your grade in E1 test

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Students to get their folders and get out the D1 test we did in OCtober this year

LESSON: Work backwards through the test questions, encouraging questions and reminding /reviewing topics on the test. Give students examples of new questions on IWB after each question
