Mon 17th Dec/Weds 19th Dec Algebra Simplifying / Collecting Like terms
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To practice simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to simplify a variety of algebraic expressions the
ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Hand out the make 200 puzzle sheets. Give students a max of 10 mins to try and solve the problems. Any early finishers let them check their answers against the answers provided. Check answers with all at end of 10 mins
LESSON: Hand out Collecting like terms worksheet. Students to solve all problems on the sheet provided. use answers and get students to check their answers at regular intervals.
EXTENSION: Should anyone complete all questions correctly (Jefferson Might) give them the three sheets from the other activity - a question sheet, a list of symbols against the alphabet, and a sheet of answers against symbols. In this activity they have to simplify the expression, then find out what symbol this represents, then write down the letter that the symbol represents (Easy to do than explain!!!)
PLENARIES: Checking students work

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: hand out exam papers and give achance to talk about it with their peers
LESSON:
Continue towork thorugh all questions with them on IWB, Encouraging them to put topics onto front page of test
Where necessary give them a chance to answer some similar questoins as we work thorugh the test paper
PLENARY: Copy and complete the following in your exercise book in PURPLE PEN
